For centuries, Lake Como has been a prime destination for Kings and Prime Ministers, Princesses and poets: royalty, dignitaries and celebrities of all types. Goethe, Stendhal, Robert Browning and Tchaikovsky all paused to take in the stunning and relaxing vistas. Going back further, even Pliny the Elder wrote lovingly of the district, his "hometown." Sprinkled around its shores, the picture-perfect towns of Gravedona, Granite, Bellagio and Menaggio offer infinite variety on the theme of graceful architecture and carefully cared for landscaping blending into the raw magnificence of mountain and lake. The sweeping views of the Alps rising nearby, the quiet majesty of the pristine waters of the lake itself, the charmingly well-worn towns and the splendid dignity of the magnificent palazzos provide a deep well of inspiration for the visual artist. The relaxing atmosphere of the region and the quiet towns provide the peace of mind necessary to the process of art making. Although we will have the entire lake region at our fingertips, we will be based in Menaggio, a small village of some 3000 inhabitants on a promontory at one of the most beautiful corners of the lake. With travel simplified by frequent ferries that leave Menaggio for every corner of the lake, the constant prospect of discovery and visual surprise, together with our base at a comfortable hotel and our nearby studio spaces provide the perfect combination for a period of intense creative work. |
